EMDR is an evidence-based therapy that’s based on the radical idea that past events inform current experiences. Who knew?

Difficult or traumatic material can stick in the brain like broken computer code. Through the use of eye movements and other tools, EMDR lets your brain move through what happened then so that you can live in the present moment with ease, right now. We can remember these difficult experiences, but they no longer carry the same emotional charge or painful thoughts.

Fun Facts about EMDR:

  • EMDR is not technically a talk therapy! Perhaps you’ve talked about your trauma or difficult childhood plenty, but you still are always looking over one shoulder, constantly anxious, or have trouble seeing the world as good, pleasant, or safe. EMDR helps us access emotions and sensations which go alongside the thoughts and explicit memories in order to move us toward resolution.

  • EMDR isn’t just for trauma-I’ve seen amazing results using EMDR for self-esteem, depression, and anxiety too!

  • EMDR is safe. Over 20 peer reviewed studies have validated EMDR, and it has been used since the 1980s in order to help people see deep transformational change.

  • EMDR can absolutely work for people with ADHD! Modifications can be made to address working memory challenges and hyperactivity. Folks with ADHD often present with unique adverse events around being “different” or not belonging, which can be great EMDR targets.
